The Need for Youth Haven Has Never Been Greater

Collier County law enforcement officials respond to more than 2,500 reports of child maltreatment every year.

In 2011, The Collier County Public Schools reported that more than 1,000 school-age children experienced homelessness, a significant increase from the 641 children reported in 2010.  Another 1,300 experienced episodic homelessness.

Of the 1,000 children identified as homeless, 122 were identified as youth with no families or support system.

There are more than 400 children in Collier County that are in the foster care system each month and only 62 licensed foster homes.

Last year, more than 32% of the children in our shelter were readmitted due to failed foster home placements.

Twenty percent of Collier County youth may have mental health diagnoses, many of those untreated and debilitating.

Fifty-six percent of the low income families in Collier County who need subsidized housing vouchers in order to provide a home for the children, do not receive them.

Held in connection with National Child Abuse Prevention Month, on Sunday, April 6, 2014 the fourth annual Fit & Fuel 50/20 benefiting Youth Haven is a charity bicycle ride to raise money for abused children and at-risk families assisted by Youth Haven. There are three ride distances: a 50-mile ride to Fort Myers Beach; a 20-mile ride to Bonita Beach; and a family-friendly short course through Pelican Bay. Post-ride festivities include lunch from Chef Paul’s Paella, craft beer and live music by local band, Made in Brooklyn. For more information visit the special events section.
