Family Support Services
Youth Haven is the sole provider of a number of in-home and community-based prevention and crisis intervention programs for families. These programs are designed to wrap around Brownie's Shelter in an effort to protect children from abuse or neglect, keep families together, and decrease foster care placements. Assistance is offered to those families in the community who are in need of supportive services to enhance their parenting skills, overcome a temporary financial hardship, strengthen family relationships, and build a stronger community support system in an effort to minimize the likelihood of homelessness, substance abuse, and decrease parenting practices and behaviors associated with child abuse and neglect.
Youth Haven's Family Support Programs include:
- Natural Helper - an in-home child abuse prevention program providing parenting education and support to at-risk families through mentoring and the reinforcement of proper parenting skills to replace learned habits that contribute to child abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment
- Substance Abuse Prevention - an outreach program providing substance abuse education and prevention to young children throughout the community. Through the use of interactive classes with fun and informative activities, children learn ways in which to communicate more effectively with their parents and make appropriate peer choices as they grow older thus lowering the incidence of potential future substance abuse
- Caring for Families - a program offering comprehensive wrap-around social services to those families with young children who are homeless or on the brink of becoming homeless. Emergency financial assistance, crisis intervention, financial training, employment education, parenting education, and mental health support is provided to assist in stabilizing families at-risk of losing their housing because of a temporary financial hardship
All of Youth Haven's community outreach programs are provided in English, Spanish and Creole by a team of highly caring and compassionate social work professionals. Psychological counseling and behavioral therapy services are also offered to the families through The Children & Family Counseling Center at Youth Haven
